About the service

The Infected Blood Psychological Service offers comprehensive assessment, support and treatment to improve the psychological health and wellbeing of anyone who has been infected or affected.

This support is provided by clinicians with expertise in the issues facing those who have been infected or affected by contaminated blood.

The service is free and offers support via an appointment in person, over the phone or by a video call.

You will have an initial assessment to discuss the kind of support you need.  Appointments will last up to an hour. The support open to you may include psychological assessment and a wide range of treatments which will be tailored to your needs.  If treatment is required, there is no limit to the number of sessions you will receive.  Your treatment will be reviewed at regular intervals to ensure it is meeting your needs and that it is benefiting you.

In addition to psychological help the service will also help signpost you to other support such as benefits, housing, employment and financial advice.  There will also be an opportunity for you to connect with others who have had similar experiences.

Our team is ready to listen and help.

Why we set up the service

We set up this service in response to the findings of the Infected Blood Inquiry. In doing so we note that the existing psychological support services in England have not been meeting the needs of the infected and affected communities.
